DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley will host Environmental Protection Agency officials in Iowa to give them a closer look at family farming.
Grassley will host a session with officials Thursday to discuss low carbon fuel standards, corn and soybean technology. Grassley's group will then visit a local farm and a Renewable Energy Group plant in Newton, where they'll be updated on the ethanol and biodiesel industries.
Grassley says it's essential for government officials to understand the issues and the impact their rules, regulations and directives have on the rural economy.
The visit comes as the EPA considers new guidelines for "indirect land use changes" related to U.S. biofuel policies.
