LOUISIANA, MO., -- The Louisiana Historic Preservation Association is sponsoring a tour of the town's historic Riverview Cemetery on Saturday and Sunday, September 5-6.

The tour will feature visits from some of Louisiana's pioneers and early citizens as portrayed by members and friends of the association.

Visitors will learn about the history of early luminaries and enjoy the spectacular vistas of the Mississippi River.

The tour is a fundraising event for the Louisiana Historic Preservation Association and the $5.00 admission charge will help fund ongoing projects of the organization.

Sharing their contributions and life stories will be Mary Small, daughter of one of the town's founders; Fannie McQuie Senteny Anderson, Confederate mail "carrier"; Gustavus Buffum, patriarch of a business family; George Trimble, financier and philanthropist; Gov. Lloyd Stark; Prof. RR. Rowley, nationally-known geologist; Paul Stark, Jr., botanist; Gloria Hardin, film star; and Eliza Bowman, who will greet visitors at the cemetery gates with her history of the cemetery from its earliest residents in 1813 and 1821.

Tours will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, with a half-hour break for lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Sunday hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

A shuttle service will transport guests from the older section near the main gate to the highest point of the cemetery overlooking the Mississipi to visit with three well-known residents there, and return them to the main gate area.

Tickets are available at the entry gate on the days of the tours and at Hoffman Gardens, which will be having its annual daylily harvest.
