ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Rockford officials have set a hearing to decide the fate of a firefighter charged with falsifying time sheets.

Rockford fire lieutenant Brian Watkins has pleaded not guilty to charges that he used a department computer to forge documents and commit theft.

He's accused of getting about $14,000 in overtime for work he didn't do.

The Rockford Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will hold a hearing on Nov. 7 to decide whether Watkins should keep his job.

Secretary Ian Linnabary says the commission thought it benefited the community and Watkins to not let the issue linger.

Dan Cain is Watkins' attorney. He says it's unfair to have an administrative hearing before the criminal case is over.

Watkins is on paid administrative leave.
