Computer discovers original color scheme
Keep your eye on the Becky Thatcher house in downtown Hannibal because there is a big surprise in store.
HANNIBAL, MISSOURI --
The house is a wreck right now but that's because crews are working on a major restoration of the home.
But here's the interesting part.
A recent computer analysis determined that the home was not originally painted white.
There were about 10 layers of paint on the house.
The first one dating back to the mid 1800's.
It was a sort of a khaki tan.
The trim was a darker shade of that same color and the sashes (the little wooden strips between the widow glass) were dark green.
So when the renovation is complete the house will be painted those same colors again.
The project is expected to be finished before winter.
Grant's drugstore also was recently listed as one of the most endangered buildings in the state of Missouri.
The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum has requested 3 million dollars in economic stimulus money from Governor Jay Nixon to repair the property.
