Dishwashers recalled, pest-control scam
General Electric, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling approximately 2.5 million dishwashers.
GE says the liquid rinse aid can leak from its dispenser onto the dishwasher's internal wiring, which can cause an electrical short and overheating, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
The recall includes GE built-in dishwashers sold under brand names including Eterna, GE, GE Profile, GE Monogram, Hotpoint and Sears Kenmore.
The dishwashers were sold in department and appliance stores from September 1997 through December 2001 for about $400.
Consumers are urged to stop using the dishwasher and to contact GE for a free repair or rebates for new units.

Beware of pest control scams right now.
Con artists will come to your door, tell you you have termites, and pressure you to sign a contract quickly.
Remember, reputable companies don't go door-to-door.
Don't be pressured; your house won't fall down immediately, even if you do have termites.
If you do sign a contract, then change your mind, you have three days to cancel it.
And if you think you've been scammed, contact the police.
