JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (AP) -- A St. Louis lawmaker who pleaded guilty to bribery has resigned from the Missouri House.

Democrat Talibdin El-Amin submitted his resignation Wednesday to Gov. Jay Nixon.

The governor set a Feb. 2 election to choose a replacement.

El-Amin pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to accepting $2,100 in bribes from a St. Louis gas station owner who wanted help resolving problems with city government.

The businessman was cooperating with the FBI, which recorded the deal.

El-Amin is the third St. Louis-area lawmaker in a month to step down after pleading guilty to federal charges.

In August, state Sen. Jeff Smith and Rep. Steve Brown resigned after admitting they plotted to mislead investigators looking into finance violations by Smith's 2004 congressional campaign.
