EWING, MO --
A Lewis County 8th grader was honored Tuesday evening for saving another person's life.
Dustin Tournear was riding his 4-wheeler in Durham last month when he spotted his cousin, Jordan Tournear, on fire and panicking.
Fourteen-year-old Jordan had accidentally gotten too close to a brush fire when his clothes caught fire.
Dustin ran and got a blanket; pushed Jordan to the ground and patted him down to put the fire out.
Dustin told KHQA he didn't even have time to think -- he just reacted.
Jordan received 3rd to 5th degree burns and is now recovering.
But the situation could've been much worse if it hadn't been for Dustin's quick-thinking and actions.
What has he said to you? Dustin Tournear answered, "Thanks. He's grateful I was there. He is very proud of me."
Dustin Tournear told KHQA he paid attention when the Ewing-Maywood Fire Department attended his school for training sessions.
His advice to other kids when their local fire departments visit their schools?
Pay attention.
He says you never know when that information will come in handy down the road.
