SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- Illinois voters will get a chance to decide whether they want the power to recall corrupt, incompetent governors.

The Illinois Senate voted overwhelmingly Thursday to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot next year.

If voters approve the amendment, it would create a complicated process for recalling governors.

The recall process couldn't start until 30 lawmakers give their approval.

Then a governor's foes would have to raise hundreds of thousands of signatures.

If they got the required signatures, then a statewide election would be held to decide the governor's fate.

Gov. Pat Quinn has been a major supporter of the recall proposal, saying it would give voters more control over their government.
