John Edwards entered the room at the Comfort Inn in Ft. Madison to cheers of support from those gathered there.
One in front of the crowd he wasted no time attacking the Bush administration and its policy in Iraq.
Edwards said that the term Global War on Terror is nothing but a bumper sticker slogan to justify Bush's failed policy in the country and the price that our soldiers are paying.
"We have a military that's strained to the breaking point. We have men and women who served in the military, who are worn out and who still continue to serve this country patriotically, however worn down they are. And they're being sent to Iraq with equipment or serving in Iraq with equipment that's worn out. That's what George Bush has done to our military."
Edwards also addressed a number of other issues including breaking the monopoly of energy companies, removing America's dependence of foreign oil and providing a system of universal healthcare for all americans.
Despite what some are saying Edwards says that the caucasus in Iowa are very important and that all the major candidates will make stopping in Iowa a priority.
"This is the starting place for the nomination process. It's a great grass roots process that takes place here in Iowa. I think it's a tough place for all of us, because you have to come to events like this and answer hard questions,'' said Edwards. "But it's the way democracy works. I expect all the serious candidates to contest in Iowa."
Edwards visit brought cheers, laughter and determination from his supporters for the man they say should be the next President of the United States.
