H1N1 flu shots to be available at WIU

The following is a news release from Western Illinois University;

WIU to Provide H1N1 Nasal Spray Vaccine Clinic Oct. 22, Oct. 26 to Select Groups

MACOMB, IL –  Western Illinois University's Beu Health Center will offer the H1N1 nasal spray flu vaccine at clinics Thursday, Oct. 22 and Monday, Oct. 26; however, the vaccine will be administered only to healthy WIU students, faculty and staff who are not pregnant and who meet the following requirements:

*  Healthcare/EMS workers who are under 50 years of age

*  Persons who care for a child under six months of age 
   and are under 50 years of age

*  Persons 18-24 years of age

According to Beu Health Center Director Mary Margaret Harris, the nasal vaccine cannot be administered to persons 50 years or older, pregnant women or to individuals with chronic long-term health condition such as asthma, heart disease, kidney/liver disease or diabetes.

The nasal-spray vaccine clinics will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 in the Thompson Dining Hall and from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 in the Bayliss-Henninger halls lobby. Qualifying individuals must present a current WIU ID. The nasal-spray vaccine, which is offered at no cost, will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
