URBANA, Ill. (AP) - New policies at the University of Illinois designed to prevent prospective students with friends in high places from gaining an advantage over those without clout are about to be put to the test.

Monday marks the first application deadline since the policies were implemented.

They came in the wake of the admissions scandal in which some candidates with political connections were admitted despite relatively poor academic credentials.

This year, if outsiders get involved with the admissions process it will be noted in a publicly accessible data base.

Also, university employees face being fired if they interfere in the process.

And if trustees do so, they can be kicked off the board by the governor.
