A Hannibal native has thrown her hat in the ring to represent the people of Illinois.
D-K Hirner has lived in Springfield, Illinois on and off for the last eight years, and wants to be a Congresswoman.
Hirner, a democrat, wants to challenge republican Aaron Schock next fall for the 18th Congressional seat, but she'll have to get past a primary opponent first.
Hirner just resigned as the Executive Director of the Illinois Environmental Regulatory Group so she could campaign.
That group helps businesses work with the Illinois E-P-A.
Hirner has also worked for two past governors in Missouri, Bob Holden, and Mel Carnahan.
She stopped by KHQA today, and we asked why she wants to run.
She told us it was a difficult decision to make.
"Then I thought about Aaron Schock's voting record, and how it seems he has lot touch with the people who live in the 18th Congressional District. I thought a lot about that. I decided that the people of the 18th District need a voice that will take their issues and concerns to Washington D.C.," says DK Hirner.
As we said, Hirner faces opponent Carl Ray of Washington, Illinois in the February second primary election.
