SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (AP) -- The retiring president of the University of Illinois got a standing ovation at his final meeting of the school's board of trustees.
B. Joseph White is stepping down after a scandal over political influence on admissions to the university.
White told the trustees Thursday that he regrets the admissions "problems." He calls the scandal "a searing experience."
White is returning to teaching, and it was his final board meeting as president.
After his statement, the trustees and staff stood to applaud White.
