QUINCY, ILL. -- The following information came from the Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design:

The Gardner Museum of Architecture and Design will be open during the week of Thanksgiving for those wishing to view the exhibits.

Hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 1-4 p.m.  

The museum will be closed Thanksgiving Day so that staff and volutneers can enjoy Thanksgiving with their families.

The museum currently hs five separate exhibits available for viewing.

One is "Gardner Denver - 150 Years of Industrial Innovation."

Another is "Martin J. Geise - Architect" that features the many homes and buildings designed by one of Quincy's favorite architects.

Still another exhibit is "The Gardner Family Mansions" that features the homes of R. W. Gardner and his heirs.

"Builders and Manufacturers of Quincy" is on exhibit on the second floor of the museum

Lastly is the "Aspirations in Glass" exhibit that is also on the second floor of the museum; it has been added to and changed but still includes many of the wonderful stained glass from area churches that have been demolished.

The museum gift shop also is and has many unique items that will make wonderful Christmas gifts for family and friends.

Among those are ornaments made from tin ceiling tiles saved from Quincy buildings.

There are also ornaments made from pieces of transoms salvaged from Quincy buildings.

Other items include the Historic Quincy Book that features photos of Quincy's beautiful architecture.

The museum is a great place for those looking for something to do besides shopping during Thanksgiving weekend.

Even if members of the family want to shop in the HIstoric Quincy Business District, the Museum is an alternative activity for those who would rather have another activity.

Admission to the museum is $3 per person.

Children 10 and older are invited to be part of the gIngerbread house-making workshop on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 9 a.m.-noon. 

Cost is $15 each and reservations are required as class size is limited.
