CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (AP) -- It isn't uncommon to see deer anywhere in Missouri, including Cape Girardeau.
But residents of the southeast Missouri town aren't used to seeing one that is all white.
The Southeast Missourian reports that several people have spotted a rare albino deer.
David Ford saw the deer in a field, and it walked to within 30 feet of his pickup truck.
Cape Girardeau County Conservation officer Russell Duckworth says only 1 percent of deer are born albino.
They are less likely to survive in the wild because their white coat makes it easier for predators to see them.
Those predators can include humans.
Despite the rarity of the albino deer, Duckworth says it is legal to hunt them.
