QUINCY, ILL. -- (Quincy, Ill.)  One of the worst aspects of holiday shopping is usually parking, but the Quincy Police Department is not expecting any parking problems in the downtown area.

QPD stepped up its patrols on the two hour parking limits downtown last year, but says there were no major issues.

That's why the department will not increase its patrols on parking this year.

Deputy Chief Ron Dreyer says there is plenty of parking in the area and increasing patrols would not be the best use of the departments resources.

"We'll be there and we'll do the best we can. If we see issues that arise that maybe we didn't foresee and the circumstances change this year, then we'll adapt to that. But right now it's really not something that we need to focus on full time during the holiday season, as far as just the parking in the down town area," says Dreyer.

The police department will continue to respond to any parking complaints it receives.

QPD is also asking business owners and employees of the downtown shops to park in long term lots instead of in front of the buildings, making more spots available to shoppers.
