JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Two Missouri state parks will be closed this coming weekend for a special deer hunting season. A third park will close for one weekend in January for the same purpose.
The Department of Natural Resources says the special hunts are being held to thin herds that have become too large, damaging resources.
Stockton State Park in southwest Missouri and Watkins Woolen Mill State Park in the northwest will be closed to the public Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13.
Knob Noster State Park in west-central Missouri will be closed Jan. 9-10.
Missouri state parks are wildlife refuges and hunting generally is not permitted. Special permits for the hunts have already been issued.
