Funding for new, big projects unclear

PALMYRA, MO. -- 2009 was a very busy year for the Missouri Department of Transportation.

That's the message from MoDOT District Engineer Paula Gough.

At a meeting Monday December 7th, MoDOT workers looked forward to what 2010 will bring.

Gough says a lot of resurfacing, preventive maintenance and bridge work will take place in the coming year.

But as for big, new projects, the future is unclear.

"But really looking ahead there's still a lot of uncertainty with federal funding, as well as state funding. People are driving less, sales of new vehicles are down, registration is down. So funding is a bit uncertain, but we have a very good program of projects for 2010 that we will deliver upon," said Gough.

Gough says everything that is included in MoDOT's five year transportation plan will move forward in 2010.

The department will not commit to any larger projects until it's clear what funding will be available.
