HANNIBAL, MO. -- It's a common complaint that many parents hear from their kids....There's NO PLACE TO GO.
But thanks to the efforts of four parents, the kids in Hannibal and the surrounding area don't have to worry about that anymore.
In this It's Your Business report, KHQA's Stephen Johnson shows us a new place for kids to have fun....The Pirates Corner.
No matter if it's Fooz-ball, pool or video games you can find it at the newest hangout for kids in Hannibal and the surrounding area.
The Pirates Corner located at 313 Broadway is the brainchild of four parents, Ed Stratton, Lisa McKay, Jona Ferreira and her husband Travis, who were concerned that there was no place for kids to go and hangout in the community.
He says, "So we got to thinking about it. If we had like a pool hall or a place to play arcade games and a place where they could just sit down and enjoy each other, then the Pirates Corner would be the perfect place for that."
Ed says the business has received a lot of support from the Hannibal School district.
The owners were allowed to pass out flyers to the kids in the school.
He says,"Once the word got out it really started to pick up really quick. Kids were like YEAH, this is exactly what we need and things like that."
Ed says a commitment to safety is at the top of the list for the owners.
That's why they chose a space that is one big room so that there are no cubby holes for kids to hide in from the person supervising.
He says," We want parents to know that they can come down here anytime and check out our facility and see that it is safe. Feel free to give us a call (573) 629-2421 anytime. Come down, check it out, so you can be comfortable as a parent knowing that this is a safe place to go."
In the very near future the owners want to add on a wi-fi service so kids can bring their laptop computers and do their homework at the Pirates Corner.
