Heavy winds make it difficult

TAYLOR, MO. -- Blowing and drifting snow shut down many Iowa roads Wednesday, December 9th.

That forced many travelers and truckers to wait out the storm.

We spoke with one semi driver who was heading to Des Moines, Iowa.

He said he'd been told heavy winds knocked trucks over in some areas of Iowa and many had jack-knifed because of slick roads.

He told us he received a call that in some parts of Iowa, the National Guard's humvee's were having trouble reaching stranded drivers.

What do you do when you drive in weather like this?

"Just go as far as you can on the clean roads. Then just pull over, keep your fuel tanks full and try to stay warm," said Semi-driver Richard Huffman

What's the hardest part about driving in winter weather?

"Keeping your truck in your own lane," said Huffman.

We spoke to Huffman Wednesday morning at about 11 o'clock in Taylor, Missouri.

He was hoping he'd be able to make it to Wayland by the end of the day.
