CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (AP) -- Faculty positions will be eliminated at Southeast Missouri State University as part of an effort to reduce the budget.
The Southeast Missourian newspaper reports that the Cape Girardeau-based university is developing a two-year plan to address its budget shortfall.
The university plans to cut nearly $7.8 million over the two-year period.
Provost Jane Stephens says at least three faculty positions will be eliminated, and additional staff cuts are under review.
Sixteen vacant positions will not be filled.
State universities received federal stabilization funds this year to keep their appropriation the same as last year.
It was part of an agreement with Gov. Jay Nixon to freeze tuition.
