CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (AP) -- Pollution problems persist from a smoldering fire at an abandoned meatpacking plant in Cedar Rapids.

Linn County health officials are still warning neighbors near the former Farmstead Foods plant to stay inside to limit exposure until the smoke has cleared.

The fire broke out Dec. 15 and has been smoldering ever since.

Officials say air quality monitoring, which was completed Sunday morning, found elevated pollution levels in the immediate area surrounding the plant.

Fire officials said the building was unsound and decided to let it burn because of safety concerns.
