QUINCY, ILL. -- KHQA's Stephen Johnson introduces you to a local man who is breathing new life into a popular location in Quincy.
If you are looking for a place to wind down after a hard day then Quincy's newest business is the place for you.
The Blind Pig is located at 900 North 12th and is the former home of the Plaza. Restaurant Owner Jeremy Bigelow is a Quincy native who spent years as a bartender not only in Quincy but on cruise ships around the world.
The first thing you notice about the Blind Pig is its name. So we asked Jeremy ...why the Blind Pig? "That's always the first question everyone asks...what is a blind pig? Blind Pig was a slang term used for speakeasy's during prohibition. So it's kind of an older, you know it's got some history to it, just like the building here. And we just wanted to do something with more of a classic feel than some of the places that you go on a normal basis."
It took Jeremy 4 months to renovate the building. It has plenty of seating. Many of the tables are made of laminated wood.
One highlight is the corner stage which is designed to look like an old fashioned brick street complete with it's own manhole cover.
But the big highlight is the food.
"The Italian beef is my favorite. It's a good classic Chicago recipe. It's got a real good taste and of course the Chicago hot dogs. We use Vienna all beef hot dogs just like the ones in Chicago."
Like everybody who's seen a dream come true, Jeremy says he could not have done it alone. "Just want to say there's no way I could do this without my friends and family. It's been a heck of a journey but without friends and family there's no way it could have happened."
The building also features a large banquet room in the basement. Jeremy says he will start renovations on that part of the building after the new year.
So remember it's Your Business.
