Hotel/motel tax payments late again
QUINCY, ILL. -- Country Inn and Suites in Quincy is having more problems.
You'll remember earlier this year the hotel was behind on tax payments to the city.
With taxes, interest and fines that added up to more than $80,000.
That debt was eventually paid off and a payment system was set up between the hotel and the city of Quincy.
Each month Country Inn and Suites electronically pays the city $6,000 for its hotel-motel tax.
It has kept up with those payments, but that doesn't always cover the full amount of those taxes.
Country Inn and Suites is now $8,245.02 behind on payments to the city.
A hearing will be held Wednesday, December 23rd at 11 AM with the hotel and the city of Quincy.
"Now they could come in and pay off what they owe and we wouldn't necessarily have to have the hearing. If they do not, we'll definitely have the hearing and again they're in jeopardy of the mayor deciding to revoke their license to operate," said Quincy Mayor John Spring.
Mayor Spring says he hopes he does not have to revoke the hotel's license, but says Country Inn and Suites needs to realize it cannot continue to get backed up on its payments.
