JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri Senate committee is gathering more information about last year's delayed reporting of bacteria test results at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Current and former officials of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources were asked to testify Tuesday before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy and the Environment.
The panel began investigating last year following revelations that tests done in May showing high levels of E. coli bacteria in the Lake of the Ozarks weren't made public for about a month.
Later, it was also revealed that the DNR failed to close public beaches where high levels of bacteria were found.
Gov. Jay Nixon suspended Natural Resources director Mark Templeton last fall and fired a longtime aide.
