Be prepared for emergencies and disasters

QUINCY, ILL. -- The state of Illinois wants residents to be better prepared for emergencies this new year.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency has launched a 12 month preparedness campaign. We found out how this campaign is designed to keep you safe.  Each month, IEMA will focus on one aspect of preparedness. This month's topic is home preparedness.  The agency will also feature personal and family preparedness tips.

We spoke to Adams County Emergency Management Director John Simon.  He says many times people don't believe something can happen to them, but you never know when disaster can strike, so it's important to be prepared.

"I think often times people don't take action because they think we really have those supplies, but the key thing is that they're all put together in a kit so that they're easily obtained," said Simon.
