DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Gov. Chet Culver says he'll "set the record straight" when he delivers his third report on the state's condition.
The Democratic governor says in an interview with The Associated Press that his speech Tuesday will outline his views for riding out a tough economy and will offer a stark contrasts with Republicans who are running for governor.
Republicans have criticized Culver for his handling of the budget, and he says he'll respond by emphasizing he's always balanced the budget and will do so in the future.
Culver says he'll focus on job-creation, such as funding programs at community colleges and continuing his support of the Iowa Power Fund, which pays for alternative energy projects.
The legislative session opened Monday and is expected to focus on the budget.
