KEOKUK, IOWA -- A Keokuk woman is breathing a sigh of relief this week after hearing her husband's voice for the first time since the earthquake.

Connie Hauser's husband, Bill, arrived in Haiti Tuesday before the earthquake hit.

Bill is a pastor at New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk.

He traveled to Haiti earlier this week with a fellow pastor for a conference.

Connie spoke with her husband on the phone so that he could let her know he's okay.

She's also been communicating with him via the Internet.

Hauser said, "I just wanted to hear his voice. When you hear this voice, then I feel better. He said it is so sad. The aftershocks have not stopped, so he says they constantly worry about everything. "

Connie isn't sure when her husband will be back home.

The U-S State Department knows about the pastors' presence in Christianville, which is located about 20 miles southwest of Port au Prince.

By the way, Bill was in an orphanage just moments before the quake.

It's now leveled.

Connie told us the 28 children who were staying at that orphanage are okay and are now living in a chicken house.
