Should see balanced budget in next fiscal year
KEOKUK, IA. -- Tom Marion has been the Mayor of Keokuk for three weeks now.
We spoke to him prior to being sworn in and he said the budget was going to be his first order of businesses.
Marion says he has been meeting with all of the department heads and getting all the line item budgets in order.
He is not sure what the overall budget will look like, but Marion said an early estimate would be around $15 million.
He says all of the line item budgets are looking good, but problems may arise with capital expenditures and decreased revenue from tax dollars.
Is Keokuk going to have a balanced budget for that next fiscal year?
Marion said, "Yes, we are. Now are there going to be things that come up during the year, you know we may have to have an expenditure for a vehicle or equipment, maintenance. So you always build in a little bit so you can provide for those things down the road."
The next fiscal year in Keokuk begins July first.
Marion also said Keokuk is looking at two new industrial prospects coming into the city.
He says it's hard to tell if those will end up coming to Keokuk, but also said those businesses have some great ideas for the city.
