CHAMPAIGN, ILL. (AP) -- With election day approaching rapidly, Bill Brady used a debate in Champaign to attack the biggest names in the Republican race for Illinois governor.
The Bloomington state senator jabbed at Jim Ryan for his association with a crooked state official, his record as a prosecutor and his refusal to sign a pledge to oppose all tax increases.
Brady criticized Sen. Kirk Dillard over the tax pledge, as well as Dillard's support for a huge borrowing plan under former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
And he accused Andy McKenna of an ethics violation during his tenure as Illinois Republican Party chairman.
But Ryan called it hypocritical of Brady to question his ethics and judgment after repeatedly asking for his endorsement before Ryan decided to enter the race himself.
Nonetheless, the debate televised by WCIA-TV showed broad agreement among the seven Republicans on most issues as the Feb. 2 primary election nears.
