Mark Twain Elementary School students in Hannibal are doing their part with the efforts to aid Haiti with a collection of their own.

Students have been collecting all this peanut butter and rice to send with the Madison Park Christian Church's shipment to the impoverished country.

Organizers say both items are good food staples to help feed the country's hungry.

The situation in Haiti is near and dear to hearts at Mark Twain Elementary.  One of the Kindergartners here is originally from Haiti.

Little five-year-old Sophie Douglas came to America when she was two years old.

She was adopted by a family in Hannibal after her mother passed away there.

Even though she's only five, she still feels connected to her homeland.
