AMES, IOWA (AP) -- The Iowa Department of Transportation reports that blizzard conditions continue to affect travel across much of the state.

The department said Monday evening that travel was not advised in all parts of Iowa, except for the extreme southeastern corner and some roadways along the eastern border. Tow bans are in effect where travel is not advised.

Authorities say that even where roadways appear clear, ice-glazing may be encountered on bridges and under overpasses.

Snowplows were being intermittently pulled from the roadways where visibility was limited and it was unsafe to travel, and the department warned that additional roadways could become impassable once the plows are removed. Service was to resume once the winds subside.
