WATERLOO, IOWA (AP) -- The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals has fined Black Hawk County's Country View care center for the second straight year.
Inspectors found seven regulatory violations at Country View, leveling a $1,500 fine. A similar inspection in 2008 led to 29 violations. The county paid nearly $6,400 in fines, primarily for improper treatment of pressure sores.
The current inspection report criticizes Country View's practice of waking some residents for medication or tube feedings before 6 a.m. The report points out most people consider 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. within normal sleep hours.
Country View administrator Jack Musker said staff worked very hard on improvements following last year's citations.
Country View is a nursing and mental health care facility for 121 residents. It is one of just two county-owned nursing homes remaining in Iowa.
