Plans to make IL a destination economy
QUINCY, ILL. -- Candidates running for office in Illinois are heading into the final weekend ahead of Tuesday's primary.
Republican candidate for Governor Kirk Dillard made a stop in Quincy Saturday. It's part of his three day downstate campaign swing. Dillard who served as former Governor Jim Edgar's first Chief of Staff and as a state senator says he has the experience to lead the state.
He says he wants to make the state a destination economy to help attract and keep good paying jobs. He recognized Quincy as one of the strongest pockets of small businesses in the country.
"I'm going to live in the Governor mansion with a great deal of pride. And I've said that my 1st week of Gov I'm going to lock business and labor in the executive mansion and have them start working on workers compensation systems that are more in line with Missouri and other states. Our workers compensation are tripple states like Indiana and I want to look at 1 billion dollars in taxes and fees that Rod Blagojevich and Quinn heaped on Illinois businesses their 1st year in office and start to undo those," said Dillard
The primary election day is Tuesday, February 2. There are two democratic candidates and six republican candidates. There's also a high-profile race in Illinois for President Barack Obama's old Senate seat.
