CHARITON, IOWA (AP) -- State, local and Lucas County authorities are investigating a double shooting in Chariton that killed one person and wounded another.
Lucas County authorities say that when Chariton police and the county sheriff's department responded to a 911 call Wednesday afternoon at 20968 475th St. in Chariton, they found one adult man dead and a juvenile female suffering from a gunshot wound.
The juvenile female victim was transported to the Lucas County Hospital and then transferred to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, where her condition was not immediately available.
Witnesses said they saw a juvenile male leaving the residence just before police arrived.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa State Patrol are assisting in the investigation.
