Late airman's personal items stolen from family

TROY, ILL. (AP) -- Survivors of a southwestern Illinois airman killed in Afghanistan say they're heartbroken because someone stole the serviceman's personal items during a trip to Colorado for a memorial service.

Brad Smith's family says a bag containing the Troy man's dog tags, along with his watch, wallet and other items, was stolen from their rental car while they lunched Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Smith was killed Jan. 3 by a bomb in Afghanistan.

His widow, mother and 3-month-old daughter attending a memorial service in Fort Carson, Colo.

The family is pleading to have the items returned, and a $1,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to an arrest.
