QUINCY, ILL. -- Becoming a good athlete takes two things. Hard work and good guidance...and that's where Gary Bagley comes in.
For almost a year now, he's taken his 25 years of experience as a trainer and used it to create a unique training facility known as Trainsmart.
Gary says it's important for the kids to have qualified trainers to make sure they are working the right areas for their specific sport.
"Most of the exercises that a lot of the kids do are frontal and medial shoulder exercises like bench and overhead press...not working their rear deltoids so if they are in football taking a shot from behind, it makes that shoulder a lot more vulnerable, so again, having the program designed to where it puts everything together & works on strengthening the areas that may not be strenthened if they're doing it on their own."
At first, Gary was concerned about opening up his business in a tight economy.
"It was a little bit scary going out, especially as we all know, the economy is not that great. One person gave me the advice that they started their business in a slow economy and they said if you can make it then you know for sure that you will be able to make it, so I thought what the heck, I'm going to give it a shot and it's been great."
Gary says making sure a team is conditioned properly is very important because superstar athletes don't come around every year.
"One of the things you can have though is athletes that are conditioned to a level that may beat your opponent just from conditioning. Every year you can have the best conditioned athletes and that's really important."
Trainsmart is located at 2132 Glenayre Way in the Quincy Industrial Park.
Gary also holds classes for the general public including circuit training and aerobics and he plans to have pilates classes in the very near future.
So remember...it's your business.
