DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- The school day will get longer for students in Des Moines to make up for this winter's snow days.
It's all part of a plan to make up six days of missed classes because of the weather without cutting too much into summer. The district had considered holding classes on Saturdays and cutting into spring break to avoid pushing the school year into mid-June.
Starting April 5, classes will begin 10 minutes earlier and end 10 minutes later. The added time will make up four of the snow days. The other two will be tacked on to the end of the school year.
The school board approved the district recommendation on Tuesday.
