DES MOINES, IOWA -- State Representative Jerry Kearns of Keokuk announced today that Lee County has been awarded $669,492 for road and bridge improvements.

“I am pleased to see these improvements come to Lee County,” said Kearns. “These upgrades will help our community and will bring good paying jobs to our area.”

The award includes $548,592 for concrete pavement on U.S. 61 at the intersection with 48th Street in Fort Madison and $120,900 for lighting work including the electrical component upgrade of the Keokuk Bridge in Keokuk.

This is just one of 16 transportation grants that was awarded across Iowa by the Iowa Department of Transportation.  This comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 approved by the United States Congress.

Iowa received a total of $358 million for roadway, bridge, trail and freight rail projects from the American Recovery and Reinvestment of 2009.
