QUINCY, ILL. -- The following is a news release from the Quincy Rotary Club:

The Quincy Rotary Club’s Annual Sportsmen Against Hunger program has finished the year with a record 448 deer turned in by area hunters. This is the 6th year for the project in which the Rotary Club partners with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Quincy Salvation Army.

Rotarian Project Chair Phil Bellis says, “We were very blessed again this year with so many sponsors that help with the expense of processing, but we really want to say a special thank you to all the area hunters who donated their deer to fight hunger in Adams County.”

Members of the Rotary Club raised more than nine thousand dollars that helps covers the cost of processing the deer meat into 2-pound bundles at the Golden Locker in Golden and the Butcher Block in Quincy.  The meat is given to the Salvation Army and other community food pantries. This year the amount of deer meat that was processed through the program equals approximately 89,600 quarter pound burgers.

Major sponsors of the Sportsmen Against Hunger program include: Farm and Home Supply, Gully Transportation, Peters Body Shop and Towing, Western Catholic Union, GameMasters, Hilbing Autobody, JH Concrete Construction, Quincy Industrial Painting Company, Independent’s Service Company, Key Outdoor Inc. and Mays, Walden & Anastas P.C.

Rotary club members not only raise money for the effort, but assist in marketing the program by putting up posters around town to help make people aware.

For more information or to make a monetary donation, contact Phil Bellis at 217-222-2405. On the web: www.quincyrotary.org
