CARTHAGE, ILL. -- The following is a news release from the Illinois State Police in Macomb:
The Illinois State Police today announced the arrest of Teresa M. Leenerts, age 48 from Hamilton, Illinois on two charges of theft over $10,000.00 and one charge of theft over $300.00.
A Hancock County arrest warrant for Leenerts had been issued as a result of a lengthy investigation regarding Leenerts’ involvement in alleged multiple thefts from the Hamilton, Illinois Ayerco Convenience Store, where she was a manager.
Thursday morning after having learned of the arrest warrant, Leenerts turned herself in to an ISP Special Agent at the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
Leenerts was processed at the Hancock County Jail and released after posting $1,000.00 bond.
The public is reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
This arrest was the result of a cooperative investigative effort on the part of the Hamilton Police Department and ISP Zone 4 Investigations.
The Hamilton Police Department upon initiating investigation into these thefts requested ISP assistance with the investigation.
ISP Zone 4 Investigations provided investigative assistance in this matter with Special Agents from the Macomb and Pittsfield offices.
