HANNIBAL, MO. -- A new non-profit group in Hannibal plans to submit a new bid to buy the Rockcliffe Mansion.
According to Attorney James Lemon, the group called the Rockcliffe Mansion Preservation Society will submit another bid in the next week, including ten thousand dollars in earnest money.
Its previous bid of $750 thousand was rejected, because it lacked a down payment.
The Louisiana lawyer overseeing the bankruptcy sale of the property has told the Hannibal Courier Post he would recommend to the court approving the next qualified offer that is submitted.
In the meantime the not-for-profit Rockcliffe Mansion Preservation Society is in the process of finalizing its Board of Directors. The Society plans to have a meeting soon to discuss and finalize its board.
Ken and Lisa Marks have leased the mansion since last Fall, and continue to operate the museum.
The Society plans to keep them as curators and operations managers of the mansion.
You'll recall the mansion has been for sale ever since owner Rick Rose filed for bankruptcy last April.
The Louisiana lawyer in charge of the estate told the Hannibal Courier Post Tuesday he continues to get a fair amount of questions about the site. He says people who have made serious inquiries before continue to express interest.
