HULL, ILL. -- A group of concerned parents and community leaders in the Western School District now know more about what it would take to form a charter school.
They held an informational meeting at the Hull Methodist Church Wednesday evening.
You'll recall the Western School District plans to close Hull Elementary School at the end of this school year to cut costs.
Students there will attend school in Barry. But many are not happy about that decision and want to examine their options.
Dixie Ward said, "The school will be closed here, but there are other concerns -- crowded classrooms, transportation issues. The main purpose was to see if there's enough interest to pursue the idea."
A majority of the 40 people who attended the meeting voted to move forward to further examine starting a charter school.
An organizer says a charter school would not be a private school in which parents pay tuition.
The closest one in Illinois is located in Springfield. Some attendees of Wednesday's meeting volunteered to visit that Springfield charter school as a first step.
