DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says divisions in the state's Republican party could decide this year's elections.

Huckabee spoke Wednesday to more than 150 people at a meeting of the political arm of the Iowa Family Policy Center, a leading social and religious conservative group. He dished out a hefty dose of anti-abortion, anti-gay rights rhetoric that energizes the conservative base of the Republican Party.

His mission was to underscore his support of Sioux City businessman Bob Vander Plaats in the Republican gubernatorial primary, and to assure the most conservative forces within the GOP that they have the power to get Vander Plaats elected.

Huckabee scored a stunning win in the 2008 Iowa precinct caucuses based heavily on his support from religious and social conservatives.
