Executive Director plans to invest in marketing
QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy is gearing up for its upcoming tourism season. The Quincy Area Convention and Visitors Bureau won the Illinois Excellence in Tourism Award at the Governors Conference on Tourism.
The bureau hopes that will help attract more visitors and residents to explore some of the hidden treasures of the Tri-States. Executive Director with the Bureau Holly Cain says although visitor numbers increased last year, the visitors center will be conservative this year, given the economy.
"We're focusing more money on the leisure visitor, focusing on motor coach groups. Those have been steadily increasing...Those are people coming to Quincy on a bus, but then they might come back," said Holly Cain.
Holly Cain says the Bureau plans to invest more of its budget in marketing strategies. For example it has a museum passport that's handed out to guests at hotels. It allows visitors to go to nine museums in Quincy for free.
