Why flu depends on the type of air

QUINCY, ILL. -- Doctors have known the flu is more common in the winter, but they may have figured out why.

We talked Dr. Musab Saeed with Quincy Medical Group. He told us colder, drier air allows viruses to live longer. Warmer, humid air can kill *some* germs and viruses.  Dr. Saeed says cold weather can cause your lungs to become inflamed.

It can induce asthma and increase chances of infections.

"Yes, in the cold weather, theoretically speaking, yet to be proven, but theoretically speaking in a lab, it does survive longer,' said Dr. Saeed.

Dr. Saeed says the flu season isn't over yet. You still need to take precautions. Remember to wash your hands often, cover your cough and sneeze. Also, avoid public places if you're sick.
