JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri is getting a new poet laureate.
First lady Georganne Nixon was to announce the new poet laureate Wednesday during an annual poetry competition in Jefferson City.
The two-year term of Missouri's first poet laureate, Walter Bargen, ended in January.
Gov. Jay Nixon took applications for the honorary position and appointed a five-person advisory committee led by his wife to help him select a new poet laureate.
