KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The trial of a Macon man who allegedly provoked a deadly encounter in Monroe County began Monday.
Twenty-seven-year-old Lucas Summers is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
The trial is being held in Kirksville on a change of venue.
Summers is accused of an unprovoked attack on two men near Paris a year ago this month.
One of the victims, 23-year-old Jerome Herrin of Madison, died of his injuries.
Summers faces up to life in prison if convicted.
