Both dealerships were headed into arbitration with General Motors
PITTSFIELD, ILL. -- One of the oldest car dealers in the Tri-States is ready to get back to the business of selling new cars.
Zimmerman Brothers is a GM dealership that until recently was placed on the chopping block by General Motors.
Along with getting rid of many of its top brand names including Hummer, Saturn and Pontiac, General Motors said it would pull the franchise agreements from hundreds of dealers including Zimmerman Brothers.
Owner Randy Zimmerman felt that the decision was unfair and had just finished the paperwork to take his case into arbitration, when he got the news that his dealership would be reinstated.
Zimmeran says, "We think the future probably looks pretty good. Especially since they have decided that of the 11 hundred dealers that did apply for arbitration, 661 are being reinstated. Fortunately we are one of them."
And the good news continues in Pittsfield.
Peter Heaton the owner of Heaton Chevrolet also received notice that his dealership was reinstated by General Motors.
Heaton was also in the process of arbitration when he heard the good news.
He says that he wants to make the most of this new opportunity.
Heaton says, "I'm saying it's more like we are somebody that was on life support and we've got a second chance. And so we've got to come back and say, now that we have a new life, how are we gonna respond?"
Both dealers say they that before they make any plans for the future they have to get more specific details from General Motors.
