PEORIA, ILL. (AP) -- An Illinois electric utility is asking customers to pledge to use less energy by swapping out one incandescent light in their homes with a compact fluorescent light that is qualified by Energy Star.

Ameren Illinois says Wednesday is the Great Energy Efficiency Day and they're asking customers to take the Energy Star Pledge.

The utility says customers can go online to www.ActOnEnergy.com to take the pledge or enter by mail.

The electric utility says customers who take the pledge by April 30 have the chance to win an Energy Star-qualified appliance worth up to $2,000.

Karen Warnke is an energy efficiency adviser for Ameren.

Warnke says you can save $5 a year in energy costs by replacing an incandescent light with a compact fluorescent light.
